Dr. Amos holds a Ph.D. in psychology and is licensed as a psychologist in California. After earning a B.S. in psychology from Indiana University, he studied psychology and psychotherapy at the Professional School of Psychological Studies in San Diego. He went on to complete a post-doctoral fellowship at the Alvarado Parkway Institute.

Dr. Amos has worked at the McLean hospital in Belmont, MA, the psychiatric teaching hospital for the Harvard Medical School, and he participated in psychopharmacological research at three institutions: McLean Hospital, the University Hospital Medical Center, and the VA Medical Centers in San Diego. He completed a collaborative dissertation on affective disorders with a prominent psychiatrist at the VA Medical Center in San Diego.

In full time private practice as a psychologist since 1987, he has had experience in forensic evaluations and reports, testifying as an expert in cases involving both families and relationships, and personality and pathology. He has supervised psychology interns and peers and has been for many years a favored teacher and guest lecturer on the subject of depth psychology. For over 20 years he has been in full time private practice, specializing in depth psychotherapy and therapy for children. This general practice has consisted of individualized therapy and evaluations, addressing the full spectrum of life issues for adults, couples, families, adolescents, and children.

Dr. Amos has undergone his own therapy through an extended Jungian analysis. Formerly, he served as president of the San Diego Friends of Jung. He lives with his wife in their home in Joshua Tree, CA..
